Why is the company called ‘Pennine Kids’?
Our company’s name salutes a dependable old friend. For millennia the Pennine Hills – the ‘backbone of England’ – has nourished the region’s economy, serving local communities, villages, towns, and cities down the river valleys and across dales.
We aim to work with organisations across all sectors. Including 5.7 million small and medium-sized enterprises, the backbone of the British economy.
Pennine Kids supports the implementation of public policies, strategies, and frameworks at grassroots anywhere, where local partnership-working really does make a difference. We champion financial, economic and social well-being for all.
What is the company’s legal status?
The Pennine Kids Company is a limited company that runs as a social enterprise. We are regulated by Companies House and have a special ‘social purpose’ clause written into our company articles.
What is this ‘social purpose’?
We are legally obliged to re-invest 51% of our profits back into the business and into projects that enable children and young people to achieve their full potential.
We are not a community interest company, ‘not-for-profit’ organisation, cooperative or charity. Our social purpose allows us to access grants and funding not normally available to wholly profit-making companies.
Our social purpose also puts a ‘heart’ into corporate social responsibility. Business cares about young people and wants to make sure they can maximise their full potential.
What are your ethics and values?
Our business ethics and values are central to everything we do. Without them, we cannot show young people the core personal attributes that business and society champion in us all.
